Charles Edward Howard – Obituary

Charles Edward Howard, 87, finally gained his heavenly reward Saturday, August 12, 2017. He was born in Decatur, Alabama on July 6, 1930 to Clarence and Martha Howard. He lived a life of a true Christian leader. He was a role model to all who knew him. Whether it be at church, the courthouse, the neighborhood, or with his friends having breakfast, he was truly the hands and feet of Jesus.

He served as a sergeant in the Korean Was for 3 years. He was the Morgan County Revenue Commissioner for 21 years. During that time he served in the community in so many capacities. He served time as the Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Red Cross, as well as the Salvation Army. He also was a past president of the Decatur Jaycees, President of the morning Kiwanis Club, served on the board of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, a charter member of St. Luke Methodist Church, and attended the Church at Stone River. He taught Sunday School class and lead Bible studies for many years.

He was welcomed into heaven by his parents; two sisters, Ola Myland and Robbie Grantham; and his brothers, Raymond and Don Howard. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Wimbreth Jane Melton Howard; two daughters, Celeste Howard Jones (Sean Jones) and Wimbreth Sue Howard Hayes (Bo); grandchildren, Briley Uptain, Lila Hayes, Nick Hayes (Payton Hayes), Alex Hayes, Hadyn Jones, and Sean Thomas Jones; and one great granddaughter, Nellie Mae Hayes.

Pallbearers will include Louie McDonald Jr., Greg McDonald, Tim and Tom Howard, Gary Glass, Hugh Looney, Ron Seibert, Jimmy Brazelton, and Ted Holland. Honorary Pallbearers will be David and Davey Hammond, Butch Hagen, The Bill J Dukes – Saturday morning Breakfast Club, and the Crossmen Emmaus Reunion Group.

A time of visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home tomorrow, August 15, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. at The Church at Stone River (Former St. Luke United Methodist Church).

The family requests memorials be made to the Church at Stone River building fund or Salvation Army.
