Charles Edward “Charlie” Birdwell born on Oct. 13, 1935, in Limestone County, died on March 27, 2016, in Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Visitation will be Friday April 1, 2016 at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be inBishop Cemetery.
Charles Birdwell was a member of the Church of Christ. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1953, attended Lipscomb University and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He was an enthusiastic amateur radio operator (HAM-W4THW) who enjoyed talking with friends around the world. He worked for NASA and the U.S. Army as a civil engineer. He was preceded in death by his father, Emmett Almon Birdwell; and one grandson, Matthew Pugh.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Burleson Birdwell; children, Angie Birdwell (Ted) Whittington, Charles A. “Andy” Birdwell and Jana Birdwell (Fred) Pickelsimer; his mother, Madge Fausteen Rogers Birdwell; brothers, Felix (Odessa) Birdwell and Wayne Birdwell; and grandchildren, Amanda Whittington (Lavaughn) Hood, Zack Whittington, Justin (Jamie) Birdwell, Jason (Neika) Birdwell, Sidney Birdwell, Samantha Birdwell, Jarred Pickelsimer and Hunter Pickelsimer.
Grandsons and friends will be pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make memorial donations to your favorite charity.
