Charles Edford (Charlie) Jones – Obituary

CharlesCharles Edford (Charlie) Jones  was born February 27, 1931 in McNairy County, TN the son of the late James Wesley and Ollie Mae Morgan Jones.

He was united in marriage to Nellie Mae Battles on July 7, 1951.

Mr. Jones was a truck driver for Texaco in Selmer for 31 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for 18 months driving an ambulance.

Family and friends knew him as, “Charlie,” others might have known him as Santa Claus. For many years, you could see him at Bethel Springs Elementary School, Lee’s Grocery, or the Texaco playing Santa. He was a jolly man, well liked, and loved picking at people. He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass, going to auctions and chewing on a cigar.

Mr. Jones departed this life on October 22, 2013 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 82 Years, 7 Months, 25 Days. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nell Jones of Bethel Springs, TN; a brother, James Jones of Corinth, MS; nieces and nephews, Belinda, Diane, Johnny, Becky, Rocky, Pamela Sue and Shannon; several great nieces and nephews; host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by two sisters, Burnie Sue Austin, Margie Lou Battles Porterfield.
