Charles E. Comer, 89, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Countrywood Manor in Mantachie. Born May 26, 1925, he was one of five children born to Golden and Gertrude Lucas Comer. He graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School in 1943. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army 80th Infantry Division from 1944 to 1946 in France and Germany. He was injured in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a farmer and worked at Krueger International for 27 years until he retired. He was a member of Fawn Grove Freewill Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He loved spending time with family and grandchildren and enjoyed gardening.
Services will be at 1 p. m. Saturday, February 28, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Terry Booker and Bro. J.V. Mills officiating. Burial will be in the Fawn Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lois Comer; his daughter, Lila Marlin (Terry); two grandchildren, Chris Marlin and Heather Humphries (Courtney); and one great-grandchild, Parker Humphries, all of the Fawn Grove community; one brother, Robert Comer; one sister, Betty Roberts (Wilford); and a sister-in-law, Rose Mary Comer, all of Tupelo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Lamoine Comer; a brother-in-law, George Martin (Clyda Nell); and two nephews, Graham Comer and Andy Martin.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Martin, Michael Martin, Don Roberts, Mark Roberts, Chris Marlin, and Woody Comer.
Honorary pallbearers will be William Forrester, Perry Franks, David Howell, Phillip Marlin, Russell Burcham, J.T. Knight, Keith Knight, and Ricky Rayburn.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p. m. Friday, February 27, and will resume from noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
