Funeral services for Mr. Charles Dwight Upchurch, age 84 of Ashland will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Rosser officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Upchurch passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at his home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and a graduate of Clay County High School. He had work for several years with the Clay County Road Department, where he met his future wife of over 60 years, Ottilu McCain. He later worked as a farmer and carried on the family business “Upchurch Dairy, He pastored several churches over the years until his retirement, then enjoyed sitting on the porch with his wife, riding his tractor and checking on the cows. He also liked watching Auburn football.

Mr. Upchurch is survived by his son, Charles David Upchurch (Brittany); his daughter, Donna Upchurch, one sister; Alice Fowler (Donny), two brothers: Johnny Upchurch (Sheryl) and Kenneth Upchurch all of Ashland. Six grandchildren: Derek Mastin, Tyler Mastin (Shaeley), Breana Railey (John Dylan), and Kayla Mastin, Kaydence Davis, and Raylan Davis, three great-grandchildren: Kaylen Mastin, Camryn Mastin, and Coplen Railey, plus a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by her parents; J. C. Upchurch and Annie Mae Tomlin Upchurch, his wife of over 60 years; Ottilu McCain Upchurch, three sisters; Judy U. McCollum, Linda U. Giddens, and Helen Upchurch, and two brothers; Clyde and Roger Upchurch.

Pallbearers will be Derek Mastin. Tyler Mastin, Big Jonathan Upchurch, Little Jonathan Upchurch, Russell Carr and Jeremy Alexander.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland on Friday October 10, 2025 from 5:30 until 8:00 P.M. He will lie in state at the church from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
