Charles David Stines, age 69 of Cowan, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, with his sons by his side. David was born on July 5, 1954, in Winchester, to the late Charles and Elizabeth Jean (Garner) Stines. He was a 1972 class graduate of Franklin County High School. David was the owner and operator of Cowan Woodworking, former manager and foreman for Tennessee Valley Ready Mix, and was currently a foreman for Tinsley Asphalt. He was a devoted member of the Cowan First Baptist Church. David was a master woodworker; enjoyed being outdoors, deer hunting, and riding his Harley Davidson; but most of all he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren family and friends. He loved playing practical jokes just to see someone laugh and smile. On rainy days, you could find him watching westerns or any old black and white tv show and on Sunday afternoons watching Nascar. David will be remembered as a bullhead and extraordinary person, who was a selfless man that would give the shirt off his back without anyone knowing it. David was loyal man, not only to his family but to his work family and friends as well, you never had to guess where he stood. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Melba Hill. David is survived by his sons, Chuck (Tabitha) Stines and Harley (Kati) Stines; daughter, Tonya Partin; grandchildren, Brady Hall, Hank Stines and Lizzie Stines; special companion, Gail Wimley; nieces, Heather (Steve) Rowley and Lara (Johnathan) Jernigan; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home and again on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, from 11:00am – 1:00pm at Cowan First Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 1:00pm at Cowan First Baptist Church with Bro. L.Z. Johnson, officiating. Interment will follow in Cowan Montgomery Cemetery with Brian Brown, Eddie Custer, Mike Brewer, Charles Drake, Peter Tinsley and Ronnie Kilby all serving as pallbearers and many other friends serving as honorary pallbearers.
