Charles Dale Ewing, 86, of Florence, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at his home following an extended illness. Visitation will begin at 3pm Friday at Lee Heights Baptist Church followed by a memorial service at 4pm with Rev. Charlie Johnson officiating.
Mr. Ewing was born in Wooster, Ohio to the late Charles Curtis Ewing and Ruby Snow Lawrence Ewing. He attended William Penn College and was a veteran of the US Air Force. He retired from Hensley Properties in Florence and was a member of Lee Heights Baptist Church. He served as mayor of Beacon, Iowa and also served on the school board there as well as being editor of the Oskaloosa Daily Herald newspaper.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Barbara Ewing. Surviving are his son, Tom Ewing; daughters, Barbara McMillen and Jena Daniel; sisters, Jerry Banke and Patti Lawrence; grandchildren, Jodi Voss, Eric McMillen, Sara Smith and Charlie Ewing; great-grandchildren, Eric T. McMillen, Joey McMillen, Audrey Ewing and Grace McMillen; great- great grandchildren, Houston McMillen and Harper Daniel.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to the Johnson family, Mona Olive, Ann Gibson and Violetta Wilson.
