Charles Clinton “Chuck” Rosecrans, 76, died in Huntsville on Feb. 21, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. Born in North Kansas City, MO, he was a retired U.S. Navy commander.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie Allee Rosecrans; daughter, Dr. Shay Rosecrans (Dr. Jerome Enad) of Pensacola, FL; son, C. Trent Rosecrans (Michelle) of Cincinnatti, OH; and two beloved granddaughters, Allee McDonald and Lucinda Rosecrans. Extended family includes sister, Karen Orlando (Phillip), nine sisters-in-law; nine brothers-in-law; 26 nephews and nieces; and numerous great and great-great nephews and nieces.. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. C. Wayne Rosecrans and Lois Harlin Rosecrans Bolin, and his stepfather, Raymond Bolin.
After graduating from California (MO) High School in 1963, Chuck went on to receive a BA in Sociology and a BS in Nursing from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, as well as a Master’s degree in Management from Webster University, St. Louis, MO. At the age of 24 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and then spent 24 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy. While in the Army, he was stationed in Columbia, SC, and Seoul, South Koria. In the Navy, he was stationed in Newport, RI, Charleston, SC, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Portsmouth, VA, Corpus Christi, TX, Yokosuka, Japan, and Great Lakes, IL.
After retiring from the Navy, Chuck continued his career at Lake City Medical Center in Lake City, FL, Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, and Madison Surgery Center in Madison. Chuck was an active member, deacon, and choir member at First Baptist Church. Involved in choral music all his life, he also sang with the Newport Navy Choristers while stationed in Newport, RI, and in recent years was a member of the Huntsville Community Chorus.
He loved traveling, especially to historical battlefields. One of his most memorable trips was to the beaches of Normandy. An avid sports enthusiast, he loved baseball – from little league to the Royals; college football (especially the University of Georgia and Texas A&M, alma maters of his children); and the NFL, supporting the Kansas City Chiefs from the team’s start
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday, February 26 at 3 p.m. No visitation is scheduled due to health concerns. Interment will follow at a later date in Missouri.
