Charles “Chuck” Thomas Sutherlin; beloved father, husband, friend, and Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy, died peacefully, with his wife Laura by his side, in Summerville, South Carolina, just past midnight on the 1st of September, 2023. Chuck lived a long and abundant life, full of adventures and disappointments, great joy and grave mistakes, heart breaking failures and hard- one achievements. He loyally served his country by joining the United States Navy just after graduating from NC State University. He served in Naval Intelligence for 22 years, becoming Lieutenant Commander at the height of his career, and after he “retired” continued to serve through military contract work for another 25 years. Chuck charmed literally every person he met with his genuine interest and care, he worked hard and with keen intelligence to overcome obstacles and improve his life and the lives of those he loved, and he told the best stories. A prolific golfer, after a life time of devotion to the sport, he finally aced a hole in one on the 15th of January, 2020 at Wescott Golf Club – age 72. Just four days later, on the 19th of January, he did it again! He has been cherished, he will be missed, and he will live on in our hearts forever and ever. May the way before him be clear and protected and may he be guided forward into grace.
