Charles “Charlie” William McDonald passed away on March 13, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on November 22, 1927, he was a life-long resident of Madison County and born to Shelby Odell and Mary Dora Winkles McDonald.
Mr. McDonald is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Nell Gattis McDonald; parents; sisters, Doris M. Baker and Ann M. Hughey; and brother, James C. (Jimmy) McDonald.
Mr. McDonald is survived by his children, son William Larry McDonald of Huntsville and daughter Charlene M. Spierer and husband, Robert of Scarsdale, New York; granddaughter, Rebecca S. Gringrich, husband, Chris; and great-grandsons, Max and Asher. In loving memory of granddaughter, Lauren.
He is also survived by his sister, Eloise M. Propst; brother, S.O. McDonald Jr. (Frances); sister-in-law, Bonnie M. Wilson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a cherished member of West Huntsville Church of Christ and a Freemason, recently recognized with a 60-year brotherhood award. He was the former owner of McDonald Brothers Construction. He was also a Navy veteran.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Madison Hospital or West Huntsville Church of Christ.
A graveside service will be held on March 16, 2024, at 10:00am at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
