Charles “Charlie” R. Potts, age 80, a resident of Santa Fe, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, at NHC Columbia.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home with Ronnie Johnson officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Potts Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Friday from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on November 27, 1943, in Primm Springs, Charlie was the son of the late Calvin Potts, Sr. and the late Josie Byrd Potts. A hardworking and dedicated individual, Charlie built a successful career as the owner and operator of his heavy equipment and dozier operating company, earning respect for his expertise and commitment to his work. In his younger years, he enjoyed going to and competing in mule pulls and going to the river. A true jack of all trades, Charlie had a knack for recognizing value and opportunity, whether it was in lumber, cars, or property. He left a lasting impression on all who knew him and will be deeply missed. Charlie was of the Nazarene faith.
He is survived by his son, Zachary “Zac” Potts of Franklin, sisters, Ester Potts Kinney of Santa Fe, Earline Potts Morrow of Santa Fe, Carolyn Potts Atkins of Columbia, the mother of his son, Carolyn Malugin Potts of Columbia, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Potts, Calvin Potts, Jr., R.B. Potts, Frank Potts, and sisters, Ruth Potts Smith, Marie Potts Goodson, Kathleen Potts Mitchell, and Audrey Potts Slaughter.
Those serving as pallbearers will be J.W. Slaughter, Phil Stanfill, Hayden Stanfill, Shane Potts, Ronnie Blackburn, and Steve Lockhart. Honorary pallbearers will include Roger Hay, Jeff Warren, Barbara Blackburn, and Leslie Malugin.
