Charles Carter “Bud” Watkins, Sr., 69, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012 after a very brief illness.
Charles was a Journeyman Electrician and was a member of IBEW Local 558. He served in the US Army in the 517th Medical Unit in Germany from 1964 to 1968. He was a devout Christian and a member of the Magnolia Church of Christ.
The visitation for family and friends will be Friday at Magnolia Church of Christ beginning at 12:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Joe VanDyke will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Charles is survived by his wife of 48 years Linda Smith Watkins; daughters Kim Watkins Greene of Hartselle and Kathy Watkins of Florence; a son Carter Watkins of Florence; grandchildren Kelsie, Matthew, Emily, Wilson and Grace Anne; brother James “Shorty” Watkins and wife Bette Rae of Tuscaloosa; sisters Jo Ann Knowles of Tuscaloosa, Vivian Olive and husband Stanley of Florence and Rose Kilgore of Jasper, TN ; numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his Shih Tzu buddy, Mattie.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kelly and Ruth Watkins, Sr., a brother Kelly Watkins, Jr.; a sister Louise Thompson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Matthew and Wilson Greene, and nephews Roddy Methvin, Michael Smith, Jason Watkins, Ben and Web Bevis. Honorary bearers will be Rodney Methvin, Stanley Olive, Tommy Smith and Tony Burks.
Charles always had a smile and wit that could make anyone’s day. His unselfish generosity to family and friends will never be forgotten.
