Charles “Buddy” Thornton – Obituary

charlesCharles “Buddy” Thornton was born on February 25, 1935, to Claude and Eloise Thornton in Atlanta

Georgia. Buddy went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was such a

loving and caring husband, daddy and granddaddy who always put his family first. He retired from NASA

where he was a crane operator and he hung the missile that stands on the Alabama/Tennessee state line. He was an entrepreneur who owned rental property in Decatur and years ago owned Lacon Trade Day and Buddy’s Package Store. He was a Decatur resident for over 50 years. He loved Alabama Football and deer hunting. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a Master Mason and Shriner.

The family will have visitation and celebration of his life Monday, February 23, 2015, at Roselawn Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday at Roselawn Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with burial in Roselawn Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Everett and Anthony Thornton; his mother and father, Claude and Eloise Thornton; his sisters, Temperance McGhee and Mamie Fowler.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Bonnie Lynch Thornton; daughter, Melissa Kelso; grandson, Ethan Kelso; stepson, Michael Bowman; sister Ann Thornton; niece, Kelly Wright; nephews, Ashley Steadham, Jessie Baker and many more nieces and nephews.

We love and miss you so much.
