Charles Tubb Profile Photo Charles Arbia Tubb, 91, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center—Gilmore in Amory.  Born on April 11, 1932, he was a son to Cullie L. and Doshie Marie Parish Tubb, and he was married to the former Marilyn Joan Job.  A graduate of Hatley High School, he was a member of the 1950 Hatley Basketball championship team, and he was awarded a basketball scholarship to Batesville, AR.  He received many sports awards for basketball, softball, baseball, and volleyball.  Shortly after attending college, in 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he would spend the next 26 years, retiring in 1979.  At the time of his retirement, he was Senior Chief Aviation Machinist Mate.  In addition, he was awarded the 1972-1973 Outstanding Top Navy Recruiter in Little Rock, AR.  Throughout his career, he held a number of assignments, including three aircraft carrier duties as flight engineer during and after the Vietnam War.  Chief Tubb was awarded two Air Medals, the Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, five Good Conduct Awards, two National Defense Service Medals, and countless Letters of Commendation from former Commanders.  Mr. Tubb was a master craftsman.  After his retirement, he enjoyed specialty carpentry refinishing and restoring antiques, hand building everything, and for many years he worked with Mr. Arch Dalrymple and others on numerous projects in Amory and the surrounding area.  He was well respected with a great sense of humor and the anchor of his family.

 

Private services were held on Saturday.

 

In addition to his wife of 70 years, Marilyn Tubb, he is survived by one son, Larry Alan Tubb of Joplin, MO; one daughter, Pamela Jean Santiago (Carlos) of Dallas, TX; one sister, Velma Starling who is 104 years young of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Thane Andrew, Dana Lynn Woodyard (Phil), Jennifer Woodling (Erik), and Christopher Cates; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and close friend, Michael Malski.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dan Tubb.
