Champak Somabhai Sheth, 95, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2022. He was born in Thamna, near Umreth, in Gujarat on February 18, 1926, to Somalal and Ladibhen Sheth.
Champak is survived by his sister Vidya; three sons, Kirit (Nayna), Khush (Meera), and Mahesh (Dipika); grandchildren, Keval, Komal, Megha, Milan, Rajiv, and Ronak; great grandchildren, Alaynna, Aryanna, Remi, Yara, Zaydn, and Zohanee. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Leela, brother Nagin, daughter-in-law Daxa, and granddaughter Kirti.
Champak came to the United States to continue his education, after visiting both Japan and Canada. He completed a B.S. in Industrial Arts from Chardon State College before earning his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado.
Upon completing his education, Champak spent many years teaching in both Kansas and Ohio. Champak then returned to his first love, entrepreneurship. Alongside his three sons, Champak ventured into various businesses in Ohio and Tennessee. Although he retired in 1981, Champak continued to advise his three sons on their businesses.
Champak had a tremendous sense of community pride. He was a member of the Chambers of Commerce of Dayton, Riverside, Yellow Springs, and Springfield. He was also an active member in the Lion’s Club for many years.
Champak will always be remembered as a leader, hard worker, family man, and selfless individual who took the time to listen and help anyone in need.
