Chad Steward Cohenour, 59, passed away April 29, 2013, in his home surrounded by family and closest friends. He was born July 6, 1953, in Decatur, Illinois. Following his attendance at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, he graduated from Samford University’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy (MSOP) in 1977. He was a pharmacist at Kmart Pharmacy before becoming the owner of Chad’s Payless Pharmacy in 2000. He was an adjunct professor for MSOP and was a preceptor and mentor for many pharmacy students.
Chad was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 3989 and a Fourth degree member of Assembly 1681. He served on the board of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, was a member of the Florence Rotary Club, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Chad was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, conservationist, and an Eagle Scout. He was the president of the Northwest Alabama Pharmacy Association, and was recently awarded the President’s Special Achievement Award from the Alabama Pharmacy Association.
Visitation will be 5-8 pm, Thursday, May 2, at St. Joseph Church. Funeral mass will begin at 11 am, Friday, May 3, at St. Joseph Church, with a brief visitation preceding at 10 am. Officiating will be Father Andy Sullivan.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Virginia Murscoe Cohenour; daughters, Madeline Cohenour Camp (Robert), Audrey Cohenour Newton (Will), and Frances Virginia Cohenour; grandchildren, Paul Benjamin Camp, IV, DeEtte Ruth Camp, and expected Lillian Grace Newton. He is also survived by his mother, Janet Steward Cohenour; sister, Gretchen Cohenour Short (John); and brother-in-law, Francis Stephen Murscoe.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Francis Dale Cohenour; and sister, DeEtte Cohenour.
Honorary pallbearers are Jack Bartmess, Stephen Fowler, Zachary Harts, Don Lenz, George Makowski, Dean Richmond, Chris Tant, and Bud Ward. Specials thanks to his healthcare team at UAB and Hospice of the Shoals. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alabama Pharmacy Association Scholarship Endowment Fund, 1211 Carmichael Way, Montgomery, AL 36106.
