Celedonio Madayag Gapasin, 84, of Huntsville passed away on July 10, 2021.

Survivors include wife, Dely Gapasin; son, Peter John Gapasin (Lucresia); daughter, Kristina Gapasin; brothers, Ruben Gapasin (Myrna); and  Herminio Gapasin; sister, Benecia Vanderwoode; and grandchildren, Jake, Nico, Oriana and numerous in-laws, nephews, and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ciriaco Gapasin and mother Victoriana Gapasin.

At a young age, his parents instilled on him the importance of education, hence he dedicated himself to teaching here (US) and abroad. He was a professor and leader in the field of education. For 27 years he was a teacher, leader, and consultant in the Philippines.
When he came to the United States and finished his doctorate degree, he continued his passion in teaching and helping students to be successful in their chosen career. He was a retired professor from Alabama A&M University after 24 years of service.

Dony, as he was fondly called was a friend to many. Many had called him Manong (brother), Tatay (Father), and Tito (uncle). He was a significant figure in the Filipino community in Huntsville, Alabama.

To his family, he was the patriarch. He never failed to love, instill wisdom, discipline, and offer help in any ways he could. He was a great man with the kindest heart.

He adored seeing people happy. He often invited friends to eat at local Chinese restaurants. He cherished singing karaoke with friends. He played his ukulele with gusto.

Visitation will be Saturday July 17th 3:00 – 5:00 PM with service to follow at 5:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home.
