Celebrate Summer with Athens Fridays After Five

ATHENS – Patrons will have additional time for retail therapy this Friday during Athens Main Street’s Friday after Five event.

 

Food trucks, shopping and dining is all on the docket. Several of the downtown merchants will be open for those who want to make the road trip to downtown Athens. Patrons can enjoy the Square Arts & Entertainment District and enjoy the outdoors.

 

In addition, Athens Main Street commissioned artist ARCY, a renowned street artist, to paint a tribute board of Athens native and Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Brittany Howard, during Fridays After Five as part of the Merchants Alley Renovation Project. Within six hours, ARCY will spray paint Brittany’s likeness on an 8’x12′ wood panel displayed in Merchants Alley.

 

“Music, food, shopping and a Live Art Event!  A perfect way to enjoy a summer evening downtown,” said Athens Main Street Executive Director Tere Richardson. “I encourage everyone to come downtown early to see ARCY create the Tribute Board.”

ARCY will begin painting at 1 p.m. and finish at 7 p.m.  Observers can set up on the northeast side of the Courthouse, there will be tables and chairs for the public to sit and enjoy both the Live Art Event and listen to the Summer Concert Series kick off.

 

Fridays After Five will once again coincide with the successful Summer Concert Series to promote local artists in the North Alabama area. The Summer Concert series, hosted by AthensLimestone County Tourism Association, will be on the Courthouse steps in front of Marion Street. Headlining this Summer Concert Series will be Briana and Garrett Dean. They will be playing this Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy the tunes.

 

Fridays After Five will be on selected Fridays of each month in May through August, beginning this Friday, May 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Athens, AL. Future dates include June 18, July 16, and August 20.

 

Fridays After Five was created to attract residents and out-of-towners alike to dine, shop and enjoy live entertainment while appreciating the historical beauty of the downtown area.
