Catherine Rowan Lewter age 82 passed away peacefully at her home of more than 50 years located in the Elgin community on Friday April 19th, 2024. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses with Hospice preferred care and all the people who helped their Granny towards the end of her precious life. Due to the unseen circumstances with Catherine’s loving daughter Denise leaving this world only four days prior the family has decided to hold their celebration of life together honoring both amazing women. Catherine was born to the late Samuel (Daisy) Rowan in Boaz, Alabama on May 27th 1941. She was one of six children two of them proceeded her in death Jerry Rowan & Jean Umphrey. She was married to Charles Lewter for the better part of 45 years until his death in 2007. She is also proceeded in death by her loving daughter Denise Lewter. We find peace and comfort that mother and daughter are together again in a place that they have no pain, no worries, and we will see them again someday.
Catherine was a sitter for the elderly with numerous families and over the years she truly became part of different families’ lives, and it brought her much joy. She loved cleaning the house, going to yard sales, and being a Granny. Many of her grandchildren’s friends called her Granny because that was her true calling up until the very end.
She is survived by her son Jeff (Pam) Rowan, grandchildren Brooke & Blake Rowan, Bradie (Dusty) Eady, and Dusty Howard. Her great-granddaughter Lucy Bell Eady was one of the greatest joys of her life. Brothers Samuel (Martha) Rowan, Ray (Susan) Rowan, Eddie (Carol) Rowan, and many nieces & nephews that she loved dearly. Her Boaz family nicknamed her Cat so to many of those dearly loved nieces & nephews she was and always will be Aunt Cat.
Catherine was a spirit that had a mixture of both grace and grit. Her grit during many hardships of her life never left her and she even pasted that strength of character down to the next generation. Her grace was being kind to herself and other despites the circumstances. Knowing that being graceful in everything such as in anger, in sadness, in joy, in kindness, in unkindness, will allow the grace from those situations retain inside of who you are.
“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” -Psalm 91:11
