Mrs. Catherine Kennamer Couch Catherine Kennamer Couch, 91, of Arab, formally of Guntersville, went home to be with the Lord
on Tuesday May 9, 2023. Visitation will be at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel from 9:00-11:00
AM on May 11th, followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Rescue Cemetery in
Morgan City. Catherine was born on January 11, 1932, to Lavoy and Thelma Kennamer. She
married the love of her life, James Everett (Stick) Couch on June 19, 1953 and they were
married for 50 years.
Catherine was a faithful Christian and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Guntersville.
She loved attending gospel singings with her husband and devoted much of her time supporting
his hobbies, including cooking early morning breakfast for him and his friends before their many
hunting excursions. She graduated from DAR and loved spending time with her grandchildren,
which were her pride and joy. She never missed an opportunity to tell folks about them. She
was always up for any event that involved her grandchildren.
She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen and always enjoyed having people over for a meal.
She was an officer at the Home Bank in Guntersville and was a prominent figure in getting it
established. She was very proud to have been a part of it and was recognized throughout the
community.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Phil) Harris, grandchildren, Corey (Whitney) Harris, and
Cati (Grayson Gilliland) Harris, great grandson Everett Harris, and godson Zack Holmes. She
was preceded in death by her parents (Lavoy & Thelma), two brothers (Robert & Billy), two
sisters (Cora Lou & Lillian) and her husband (James Everett “Stick”).
Pallbearers will include Corey Harris, Phil Harris, Grayson Gilliland, Joe Gilliland, Trevor Gevers, Ben Chambers and Daniel Ross (honorary).
