  Catherine Hoover Profile PhotoCatherine J. Hoover, age 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on January 15, 1953, in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Al and Virginia Orman Hilliard.

Catherine was a dedicated educator for over thirty years in Crockett and Madison Counties, influencing the lives of countless students throughout her career. Catherine earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Union University and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Memphis, formerly known as Memphis State. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom, as she was an active member of the Tennessee Education Association. Catherine also shared her faith as a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she served as an adult Sunday school teacher for over ten years, guiding and mentoring others in their spiritual journeys.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Catherine had a wide array of hobbies and interests that enriched her life. She was known for her unique collections, including salt and pepper shakers and Angels adorned with her Zeta Sorority crest. A true lover of travel, she cherished visiting National Parks and expressed her patriotism with pride. Catherine also found joy in craft and creativity through her participation in a sewing club, which she enjoyed alongside her daughter, April.

Catherine is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Michael “Mike” E. Hoover; her daughters, Bambi Leigh Canada and husband Chad, and April Lynn Hoover; her brother, Alexander James Hilliard and wife Linda and their children Sara, Grace, Bethany and Elijah; and her sister, Allison Leigh Hilliard and her daughter, Shannon Hilliard Farris. She was also a beloved grandmother to Ethan Hoover, Riley Hoover, Catelynn Hoover, Daniel, Rhiley, and Tanner.

The visitation for Catherine Hoover will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and continuing until 6:00 p.m. at Arrington Funeral Directors. A funeral service honoring Catherine’s life will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. Burial will follow at Browns Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ethan Hoover, Riley Hoover, Adian Farris, Chase Farris, Ben Brasfield. Matt Brasfield and Jake Brasfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Canada, Tanner Canada, Baker Rhodes, and Elijah Hilliard.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be directed to Union University in c/o Institutional Advancement, 1050 Union University Dr., Jackson, TN 38305.

Catherine Hoover’s legacy will continue in the hearts of those she touched, and she will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
