Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Hallman James age 90, of Ashland will be held on Wednesday August 14, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. John Roberts, Rev. Josh Barkley and Rev. Jeff Byars officiating. A private burial in the James Family Cemetery will take place afterwards.
Mrs. James passed away at her home on Saturday, August 10, 2024. She was a native of Clay County, after High School she moved to Alexander City where she lived and worked until 1970. She had worked for the Russell Corporation for 30 plus years. Her family and church were very important to her; spending time in her garden and working with her flowers, listening to gospel music and taking care of her cats were enjoyable pastimes. She was a member of Lystra Baptist Church.
Catherine is survived by her son, Richard James (Rosemary) of Lineville, her grandchildren; David H. James (Ricky) of Trussville, Kenneth Eugene James (Shelli) of Ashland, and her great-grandchildren Cole James (Brooke) of Ashland and Ryan James (Danielle) of Pelham, and her great-great-grandchildren, Corbin James and Ada James.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen Hallman and Ida Smith Hallman, her husband, Hoyt James, and one sister Vernell Padgett.
Active Pallbearers will be Kenny James, David James, Ryan James, Cole James, Terry Raughton, and Leon Morris.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Winfred Canady, Huey Powell, Bruce McClannahan and Ricky Maddox.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Tuesday August 13, 2024 from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. and until service time on Wednesday.
Mrs. James wishes were that there be NO Flowers, and that any memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Clay County.
