Catherine Bolin “Cathy” Lewter, 74, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on February 8, 2024, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born on January 2, 1950, in Vicksburg, Mississippi to John and Mary Jane Bolin.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters, the late Pat Smith, and the late Mary Glenn Branner. She is survived by her son, William Michael “Mike” Lewter (Christine); two grandsons, Jackson and Austin; brother, John William “Bill” Bolin; nieces, Mandy Taylor, Julia McClure, Anna Braden, Tillman Branner, Hillary Branner, Mary Bess Bolin, Fran Absher; and nephew, Patrick Branner.

Cathy relocated from her longtime hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, to Birmingham in 2012. This move allowed her to spend more time in her favorite role as ‘GG’, the affectionate nickname her grandsons gave her, and to embrace the joys of being a grandmother. With her fun-loving, free spirit, Cathy savored the melodies of her favorite music, and had an insatiable passion for reading. Her love for books and music was only rivaled by her enjoyment of fishing – a pastime she enjoyed throughout her life. Cathy’s presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten by all those whose lives she touched.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 19 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, Alabama at 10:00 a.m., where friends and family will gather to honor Cathy’s memory.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made at https://give.michaeljfox.org/give/421686/#!/donation/checkout.
