Funeral mass for Catherine B. Whatley, of Montgomery, is Friday, March 6, 2015, at 10 a.m. at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Montgomery. Burial is in Rosemere Cemetery in Opelika, Alabama at 3 p.m. Father Pat Arensberg is officiating. Visitation is today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jeffcoat Trant Funeral Home in Opelika.
Mrs. Whatley, who died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at her home surrounded by family, was born Feb. 24, 1943. She was a registered nurse for 33 years. She attended nursing school at St. Thomas School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee. Her career included serving at Lee County Hospital, Jackson Hospital, and Elmore Community Hospital. Cathy enjoyed spending time at their house in Panama City Beach, Florida, where they entertained family and friends. She was an avid Auburn fan.
She is survived by her husband, William Orrin Whatley Sr., of 51 years; her sons, William Orrin Whatley Jr. (Beth) and Stephen Louis Whatley; and grandchildren, Hillary Ann Whatley, William Orrin Whatley III, and Bishop C. Whatley. She is also survived by her brothers, Louis J. Bernauer (Nell), Gerald A. Bernauer (Marlene), and B. Paul Bernauer (Anne Katherine); her sister-in-law, Judy Clark Pianowski (John); as well as a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
