Mr. Carver Chenault Myhand, Sr. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in the times of trouble.”

Carver Chenault Myhand, Sr. was born on October 7, 1939 in Opelika, Alabama to the late John Tullis Myhand, Jr. and Mrs. Nellie Chandler Myhand. Carver was known as “DOC” to his family. He joined Zion at the Hill AME Church at an early age.

Carver completed his early education at Mullin Elementary School and Sanford Junior High School; Carver is a graduate of Tuskegee High School class of 1957.

Shortly after entering college at Alabama Agriculture and Mechanical College, known today as Alabama A&M University, the United States Army drafted Carver to serve. He traveled around the world. Carver served his country for three years, three months, and 26 days. During his   service time, he became a certified sharpshooter. Carver received an honorable discharge from the United States Army on March 26, 1962. Carver resided in New York with his late sister Ruth Myhand Norton for a short time. Carver returned to Huntsville, Alabama and was united in Holy matrimony with Ella D. Kelley Myhand. To this union two sons were born, Carver C. Myhand, Jr. and Sean K. Myhand, Sr.

Carver’s enjoyments throughout the years were fishing and hunting. Carver’s work history throughout the years included Teledyne Brown Engineering for several years and United Parcel Service (UPS) where he retired, serving for 30 years from 1969 to 1999.

He married Pearlean Cox on September 25, 1993, a union of 30 years.

Carver was an active and faithful member of St. John AME Church for over fifty years serving on the Usher Board, the Steward Board, and the Trustee Board. Carver remained a faithful member of the Fifty Plus Auxiliary as well.

Carver was a member of American Legion Post 351 and the Fraternal Club of Huntsville, Inc. Carver was proceeded in death by his brothers: John T. (Alice) Myhand, III, Willie (Sandy) Myhand, Sr., Julius S. Myhand, Sr., and Richard (Catherine) Ligon; sisters: Mary Vivian (Booker) Outland, Ruth M. Norton, Daisy Johnson, Mary Dowdell, and Dorcas R. Axel; and two aunts: Mary L. Myhand and Mattie F. Benson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 30 years Pearlean Cox Myhand of Huntsville, AL; two sons: Carver C. Myhand, Jr. of Huntsville, AL and Sean K. Myhand, Sr., St. Marys, GA; one daughter, Pamela C. Little, Huntsville, AL; one granddaughter, Gianna Myhand; four grandsons: Sean K. Myhand, Jr., Blake K. Johnson, Ace C. Johnson, and Rafael L. Cox, Sr.; two great grandchildren: Rafael Cox Jr. and Madison “Maddy” Cox; one brother, Willie (Dorothy) Scott of Auburn, AL; one sister, Betty Mosby, Auburn, AL; sisters-in-law; Emma Myhand, Tuskegee, AL, Helen Ruth Collins, Mobile, AL, Henrietta Cox, Willie Ann Coleman, and Mary Brown, all of Huntsville, AL; dedicated friends: Earnestine A. Myhand, Auburn, AL, Paul (Manervia) Hudson, Earl (Beverly) Griffis, Reverend Cornell (Norma) Martin, and David Tucker; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, neighbors, church family and friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church (229 Church Street NW, Huntsville, AL 35801) with Pastor Maurice Wright II officiating. Interment will be in the Valhalla Memory Gardens. Mr. Myhand will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

The Myhand family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Royal Chapel of Memories.

Public viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, and 8:30 until 9:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Royal Funeral Home.
