Carter Witt, lifelong farmer in Lynnville, Tennessee died June 20th, 2024 at the age of 86.
Mr. Witt attended Jones School and graduated from Columbia Military Academy and Vanderbilt University. Mr. Witt served as principal of Jones High School for five years. During this time, he served a term as President of Giles County Education Association. Mr. Witt served two terms in the Tennessee General Assembly, during his second term, he was chairman of the House Commerce Committee. In 1973 he accepted a position with Ford Motor Company as a Governmental Affairs Representative in the Southeast Region. He left his position in 1975 to become Director of Governmental Affairs for Tennessee Manufacturers Association. He became Vice President of TMA in 1976 and President in 1977. TMA became Tennessee Association of Business in 1987. Mr. Witt is a past member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Manufactures. He served as the Chairman of the Conference of State Manufactures and as Chairman of the National Industrial Council. He served on the Tennessee Unemployment Compensation Advisory Council and was Secretary of the Conference of the State Chambers of Commerce.
After retirement from TAB in 2003, Mr. Witt increased his farming activity, serving as a director of Giles Farmers Coop, Giles Cattleman Association, Giles County Farm Bureau and Charter Member and President of the Giles County Cattle Marketing Alliance. Always a Farmer!
The visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, at Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be 10:00am Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, at the Lynnville Community Church in Lynnville, Tennessee.
The burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carter Harrison Witt II and Mary Dora Witt, his sisters, Jane Witt Forrest and Betty Witt Long.
