Funeral for Carrie Denise Simmons Woods, 55 of Decatur will be 11:00 am, Saturday at New Jones Chapel C.M.E. Church with Bishop Elijah Gray officiating and inhumation to follow in Decatur City Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Woods was the first of five children born November 26, 1958 in Decatur, Alabama to the late Abe Simmons and Luecinda Newby Simmons. Carrie, fondly referred to as “Ne-Ne” was educated in the Decatur City School System and graduated from Decatur High School. She continued her education and attended Calhoun Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Administration.
Carrie confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined the St. Stephen P.B. Church under the leadership of the late Elder Eugene Lewis. Carrie was a strong anchor in the family. She was loved by many for her straight forward personality and attitude. Many celebrations, dinners, and family gatherings were held and hosted at her home. She made a positive impression on everyone that knew her.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Bonnie Taylor.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her husband of ten years, Charles E. Woods; two children: Marquis Cooper and Adrean (Larry) Sims both of Decatur; two step-children, Sheltonia Hickenbottom of Thomasville, AL and Tameka Robinson of Mobile, AL; Eight grandchildren, Ebony Cooper, Jaqueline Hickenbottom, Tyler Cooper, Larneica Hickenbottom, Kynleigh Cooper, Elijha Cooper, Promise Cooper, and Messiah Cooper; four siblings, Lisa (Morris) Griffin, Joel (Cathy) Simmons, James Deion Simmons, and Rena (Julian) Mayers, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
