Carolyn Whitlock Pigg, at age 82, departed this life to live eternally with her Lord and Savior and all her loved ones and friends gone before on Monday, October 31, 2022 from AMG Specialty Hospital in Batesville after a 6 week illness. A longtime beloved Okolona citizen, Carolyn was loved by all and lived her life graciously and in gratitude to her Lord for her many blessings. A beautiful women who always dressed to the “nines” and was a true Southern Steel Magnolia, Carolyn was adored by family and friends. She was born near Nettleton in Monroe County on September 10, 1940, one of 8 children of the late Thomas and Jewel Allen Whitlock. She attended the public schools and attended Nettleton High School , where she was a standout player on the women’s basketball team. Carolyn married Harland Wayne Pigg on June 1, 1979. He died on May 4 ,2017. She spent her working life in the garment industry working for Delta Trousers. A devout Christian and Bible reader, she was among the founding group that started Faith Outreach Church in Okolona, and served on the original Board of Trustees for many years. Her faithfulness to God was a shining example for her immediate family and extended family of friends and she was fully devoted to her Church and her Lord. She served her Lord, her family and her greater community with loyal friendship, a sterling personality and with love and good wishes in her heart for everyone! Her living was not in vain and she will be sorely missed by a grateful family and wide circle of friends.
A service celebrating her life will take place at 2 PM Thursday, November 3, 2022 from Faith Outreach Church in Okolona, where she was a longtime faithful member. Bro. Jimmy
Bryan, her brother in law and Bro. Andrew Morgan will officiate. Burial will follow in Boone’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM-8PM today (Wednesday) and from Noon-service time on Thursday-all at Faith Outreach Church. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed on Faith Outreach Facebook beginning at 1:45 pm Thursday. Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona Chapel is honored to be serving their friends.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Wanda Carol Sweeney and her husband, Doug of Okolona; her children by marriage, Pam Gann (Chip) of Houston and Valerie Rosentretor of Houston and Paul Pigg (Tammy) of Amory; her grandchildren whom “Granny” constantly doted over and was so proud of, Stephanie Carlisle, Clark Carlisle (Caroline Corley), Crystal Hicks (Kenny), Anna Kathryn Gann and Michele Homan (Jay), Tyler Sweeney and Morgan Sweeney; her great grandchildren, Mila, Scottie, Austin, Easton, Annabelle and Luke; two sisters, Linda W. Senter of Fulton and Ann W. Bryan (Jimmy) of Okolona; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a large host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harland; her sisters, Tommie Nell Free and Frances W. Russell and her brothers, Billy, Bobby and Sid Whitlock and her son in law, Chuck Carlisle.
