Carolyn Virginia Swaim Terry – Obituary

Carolyn Virginia Swaim Terry, 87, went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2015. Carolyn was born in Huntsville, Alabama to Felix and Virgie Swaim and lived and raised her family in Florence, Alabama before returning to Huntsville to live at Redstone Village.
Carolyn graduated from Joe Bradley High School Huntsville (1945) and Florence State Teachers College (1948). Carolyn was a lifelong educator teaching in the Lauderdale County School System (Rogers High School) and City of Florence School Systems, both at Coffee and Bradshaw High School for 33 years. Even in retirement, she was a Teacher of Life Lessons and was open to new ideas and in meeting people and their families.
One of her favorite activities was playing Bridge. She travelled throughout the State and played in numerous Bridge Tournaments and enjoyed the strategies of the game, but more so the friends she made along the way. Carolyn was a member of First Baptist Church and later First United Methodist Church in Florence, Alabama.

She is survived by her beloved husband Elmon G. Terry, to whom she was married for over 67 years; brother, Kenneth Swaim of Huntsville; sisters, Jade Swaim Davis of Jacksonville, FL, and Mary Elizabeth Swaim Broad (Predeceased) of Decatur, Alabama. Carolyn was the mother of two children, Carol Nell Sutherland and husband, John of Florence, and Elmon G. Terry Jr. “Gray” and his wife, Sharon of Peachtree Corners, Georgia. In addition, she was grandmother of six and great-grandmother of eight.

The Family will be receiving visitors at Laughlin Funeral Home, Huntsville, Alabama from 12-2PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 followed by a graveside service at 2:30 at Maple Hill Cemetery Huntsville, Alabama with Dr. Gerald Lord and Reverend Mary Lord officiating.
