Carolyn is survived by her husband, Harold S. Biggs, Jr.; their children, Kenithe Biggs and Stephen Biggs (Rachel); grandchildren, Mark and Anna Roe Biggs; brother, Terry Roberts (Tonya); nephews, Tyler (Emily) and Ryan (Kaycee) Roberts; great nephews and nieces, Rhett, Graham, Gage, Ellie, Marley, Noah, and Eli; many double first and second cousins, and a small army of grand cats and dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R.B. and Zola Mae Roberts.

Carolyn was born on June 28, 1947, in Moulton, Alabama, and her family moved to Decatur when she was ten years old. She was a lifelong Austinville United Methodist Church member, proudly attended Austinville Junior High, and graduated from Decatur High School in 1965. She later graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1969 and a Master of Arts in English and Mathematics in 1973, becoming the first member of her family to attend and graduate from college.

After graduating, she began her teaching career in the Decatur City School system. She taught mathematics at Austin High School the year before Brookhaven Middle School opened, Brookhaven Middle School, and Decatur High School. She finished her teaching career as an adjunct mathematics professor at Athen State University.

Carolyn loved sports. She grew up a New York Yankees baseball fan, became a hardcore Alabama fan (all sports, especially football, men’s and women’s basketball, and softball) while attending the University, and finally, a Chicago Cubs fan because of her son Stephen. Not only did she love to watch sports, but she coached intermural girls’ basketball at Brookhaven Middle School.

Carolyn used to say she wanted to see four things before she died: a Cubs game at Wrigley Fields, which she did on her 60th birthday; the Cubs winning the World Series, which she did in 2016; an Alabama player winning a Heisman Trophy, which she did in 2009; and an Alabama quarterback winning a Heisman Trophy, which she did in 2021.

Her most enduring words of wisdom to her two children, Kenithe and Stephen, were, “The truly creative are never bored.”

As we say goodbye, we celebrate that Carolyn loved her family, students, church, hometown, and the University of Alabama. Carolyn’s memory will be treasured forever as we hold her close in our hearts.
