Carolyn Mitchell – Obituary

carolyn-mitchell-1478273280Carolyn Mitchell age 85, of Muscle Shoals died Friday, November 04, 2016.
Her family will receive friends Sunday, 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Rock Springs Mitchell Memorial Presbyterian Church, Mt. Hope, AL, with Debbie Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Carolyn was a native of Mt. Hope, AL and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Muscle Shoals. She was a retired secretary with the Muscle Shoals School System, was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Mitchell, her parents, eight brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her son, Dale Mitchell and wife Wanda, daughter, Rhonda Mitchell, brother, Gene Pickens, grandchildren, Taylor Mitchell, Laura Beth Erwin, four great-grandchildren, Anna Rae, Jackson, Braden, and Ryder. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Carolyn, with help from her husband Billy put up a “Gingerbread Tree” in their front yard, three days prior to Christmas, for over thirty years. Children came and got gingerbread cookies off the tree. She loved to see second and third generations of children picking their cookies off the tree.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Rock Springs Mitchell Memorial Presbyterian Church or Keller Hospice.

The family expresses special thanks to the dedicated care givers of their parents; Kathy, Cindy, Gayle and Amy.

Pallbearers include Taylor Mitchell, Tommy Wilson, Allen Pickens, Randy Pickens, Billy Pickens, Jeff Stephens, Blake Mitchell and Johnny Mitchell.
