Carolyn McElroy Christopher was born in Bessemer, Ala. on May 13, 1927, to Rowan and Willie McElroy and died Sept. 17, 2012. Her family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Sheffield.
Her funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary with Reverend Zeke Haseldon and Reverend Bill Bedsole officiating.
She was a graduate of Bessemer High School in 1945 and attended Auburn University 1945 through 1947, where she met her future husband, Audie Mac Christopher. They were married for sixty-five years of happiness. Born of this union were sons, Stephen, David and Richard.
During Mac’s education at the University Of Alabama School Of Dentistry, she helped in the expenses by jobs at Loveman’s Department Store and at General Motors Acceptance Corp. She and Mac moved to the Shoals area in 1952 where she was an early sustaining member of the Muscle Shoals District Service League. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Sheffield. She was an avid golfer at Turtle Point and Country Club.
Her sons, Richard and David’s early passing preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Mac Christopher; son, Stephen Christopher (Michelle), of Destin, Fla.; grandson, Dylan Christopher, of Sheffield; granddaughters, Susannah Johnson (Chad), of Sheffield, Lenore and Katelyn Christopher, of Hamilton, Miss.; sister, Jackie Lampkin and favorite niece, Paula Lampkin, of Bessemer, Ala.
Pallbearers are Dr. Rivers Lindsey, Dylan Christopher, George Christopher, Dr. Winston Williams, Tom Morrow, Brooks Bowling and Dr. Keith Rushing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the church of choice or favorite charity will be appreciated.
