Carolyn Jeanette Howell, 77, of Bolivar, departed this life Thursday morning, July 6, 2017 at Pine Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Bolivar.

She was born September 28, 1939, in Middleton, to Louise Howell Doyle, who survives and the late William Carrol Doyle and lived her life here in the county. She worked for the Hardeman County School System for 37 years as a bus driver and had previously worked at Bolivar Drug Store and Wood and Miller. She met Levoid Howell at church and the two were married on April 14, 1956. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2008. She enjoyed needlework and cooking, and she and her husband spent as much time as they could camping. The Howell’s were well known in the county for the magnificent yard crafts displayed in front of their home during the Christmas season, making all of it themselves. Mrs. Howell received her greatest joy from being around her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored. She was a longtime member of New Bethany Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Teresa and Rickey Tigner of Middleton; a son and his wife, Donnie and Teresa Howell of Hornsby; a sister and her husband, Ruby and Sam Hannis of Bolivar; her mother, Louise Doyle of Bolivar; five grandchildren, Brian (Kimberly) Tigner and Brandon (Tiffany) Tigner, all of Middleton, Courtney Howell of Hornsby, Kayla (Joseph) Payne of Selmer and Katlyn Howell of Hornsby; and three great grandchildren, Tayler, Sawyer and Slayden Tigner. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Roxanne, whom she cherished. She was preceded in death by her father and her husband. The family requests memorial donations in her name be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (donate.lls.org/lls/donate) or the American Cancer Society (cancer.org/donate).
