Carolyn Dona Mayfield, age 84, of Cherokee, AL, passed away Friday, September 20, 2024. Carolyn was a member of the Cherokee Church of Christ. A private service will be held at a later date.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Wells Mayfield; son, Roger Mayfield Jr.; parents, J.T. and Tellie Thomason; sisters, Betty Ditto, Freeda Barnes, Shelia Howard, Teresa Thomason and brother, Jimmy Thomason.
She is survived by her sons, Bobby Mayfield (Vicki), John Mayfield, daughter, Suzanne Lovell (Matt); daughter-in-law, Debbie Mayfield; sister, Donna Kimbrough; brother, Jesse Thomason; sister-in-law, Nella Thomason; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Ambur, Kirsten, Ben, Scott, Carolyn, Rebecca, Sarah, Misty; great-granddaughter, Vera. She loved her grandchildren and her great granddaughter dearly.
Carolyn taught in the Muscle Shoals school system for over 30 years, first as an elementary teacher then a librarian, enjoying working with her students and cherished co-workers throughout her career.
Carolyn was generous and a very sweet person. She always had comforting, cheerful and encouraging words and a beautiful smile.
