Funeral Services for Mrs. Carol V. Monroe, age 82 of Alexander City, will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church with Bro. John Luckie officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Monroe passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Mrs. Monroe was born in Clay County, Alabama, and worked several jobs, such as the Blue and White and Dairy Quick restaurants, and the Swift Chicken Plant in Ashland. She served most of her life as a homemaker and housewife, raising her three children and family. Mrs. Carol was a carefree soul who never met a stranger. She enjoyed calling and checking on her friends, going for long walks, drawing and writing short stories. Mrs. Carol also enjoyed pulling little jokes and pranks on her friends and family.
Mrs. Monroe is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Carlson of Alexander City and Kristy Southerland of Ashland; one son, Jerry Lynn Monroe of Alexander City; three grandchildren: Andrew Carlson, Kevin Southerland, and Danielle Stewart; one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Stewart; her nephew, John Milstead (Mary) of Hayden; two nieces: Tammie H. Sides (Allen) of Valley and Angie Monroe of Ashland, plus other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence and Violet Shirey Milstead; her husband, Jerry Dale Monroe; her brother, William Riley Gay Milstead; her Father and Mother in law, Elmer Lee Monroe and Willie Odessa Tinney Monroe; her brother in law, Neal H. Monroe; and one nephew, Ricky Milstead.
Active Pallbearers will be John Milstead, Billy Burgdoefer, James Parsons, Johnny Lacey, Adam Lacey, Allen Sides, Troy Mattox, Winston Hayes, and Jeremy Suggs. Ronald Reese will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. Monroe’s visitation will take place on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. She will lie in state at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
