F.6.8.24 Carol Underwood.jpgCarol McGee Underwood, 76, Tuscumbia, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024. Visitation will be Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at her home, 4465 Old Highway 20, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Valley Grove Baptist Church, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Leighton.

Carol was a life-long member of Valley Grove Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching and attending classes throughout her lifetime. One of her favorite pastimes in recent years was spending time with a special group of friends – Angie, Sherrie, Valerie, and Nancy – from her Sunday School class. Until her retirement in 2011, she taught fifth grade at McBride Elementary School and then finished her career at Muscle Shoals Middle School teaching sixth grade. One of her favorite roles in life was being “Grandmother” to eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They cherished her sentimental gifts, but they will always have her thought-filled, highly anticipated, birthday texts that recognized her special bond with each of them. She was a selfless wife and mother, always willing to take care of others before herself. They will miss her baked beans, macaroni and cheese, Game Show Network enthusiasm, conversations with endless questions, and passion for riding shotgun, but most of all, they will miss her warmth and unconditional love.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Ed Underwood; her parents, J.P. “Buster” and Marie McGee; and grandson, William Andrew Sharp.

Carol is survived by her children, Mike Underwood, Dana Lindsey (Brian), Myra Sharp (Doug), and Monica Underwood; grandchildren, Myles Underwood, Mallory Underwood, Caroline Lindsey, Meredith Lindsey, Ashlyn Upshaw (James), Emilee Broschinski (Josh), Braden Barnes (Lanigan), and Abby Barnes; and great-grandchildren, Norah Upshaw, Liam Upshaw, and Elliott Broschinski.

Pallbearers will be Ray Counts, Paul Jeffreys, Wayne Jeffreys, Danny Myhan, Brian Lindsey, Doug Sharp, Braden Barnes, and Myles Underwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Broschinski, James Upshaw, John Trousdale, Jackson Conner, and Logan Smothers.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Jowana Hayes of Amedisys Hospice for her special care and devotion.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Saddle Up for St. Jude, 121 East Sixth Street, Tuscumbia, AL 35674, or a charity of choice.
