Carol Lee Unger of Harvest, AL, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024 in Huntsville, AL with her husband by her side.
Carol was born in Lawrenceburg, KY, November 21, 1948, but raised in eastern Indiana. She graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1966 and went on to serve as secretary to the Director of Medical Education and Executive Secretary at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, IN for many years.
She met her husband Ron in the Richmond area at the urgings of her sister Laura, who sang in a country band in which Ron was playing.
After marrying, starting her family and relocating to Estill Springs, TN for her husband’s job, Carol was a stay-at-home Mom for numerous years. She enthusiastically and proudly supported her children’s activities in academics, sports, music, and general enrichment, and was the best “cheerleader” for the entire family. She made every holiday, birthday, vacation, and seasonal change a special event to be celebrated.
After a relocation to Huntsville, AL, Carol worked in Facility Security at Nichols Research Corporation. Carol was an avid gardener and bird watcher. She retired in 2007 as a Systems Administrator at Northrop Grumman. Her retirement was made that much sweeter with the birth of a grandson in 2009, whom she adored and treasured.
Preceding Carol in death are her mother and father, Ruth Ann Barnard Butler and Edward Lee Butler, and sisters Laura Atkinson and Nancy McCarter. Survivors include her husband of 47 years Ronald James Unger, son Ronald Joseph Unger, and daughter Amanda Kate Dodson (Matt), grandson Cameron James Dodson, sister Ruth Crefasi, and brother Edward Wayne Butler.
