Carol Jane Walker Ellis, 87, of Huntsville, AL passed away April 24, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
She loved her people well and will be missed. There will not be a funeral. The family has chosen to do a private memorial celebration for the family only.
Carol was born December 20,1935 in Carnegie, OK to Eldon and Nell (Ramsey) Walker. She grew up on a farm and worked hard. She milked cows and worked in the cotton field. As a child, she was awarded a New Testament for being the first one in her Sunday School class to memorize the books of the Bible. As a teenager, she was the music leader for her church—Alden Baptist. Her fondness for music began in Glee Club in High School. She had a song for every situation with perfect memory of lyrics. She also loved basketball and was called the “Alden Flash” because she was so talented. She studied hard, in spite of having to take time out to pick cotton and was Valedictorian of the class of 1954 of Alden High School, Alden, OK. Carol met Troy Ellis at church in Amarillo, TX. They were married August 27, 1955, at Alden Baptist Church. She made her children and grandchildren her life’s work. As an accomplished seamstress she outfitted all four daughters. She also created numerous costumes (often with little notice), as well as curtains, tablecloths, baby doll clothes, and anything else anyone asked for. She clothed her family in love.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Troy Ellis; Daughters—Bonnie Cartmill, Shirley Sadorra, Carolyn Lawson, and Jenny McCormick; Grandchildren—Laura Beese, Kyle Bushong, Jacob Bushong, Benjamin Cartmill, Hannah Simpson, Callie Smartt, and Emily Rose Michel; Great Grandchildren—Madeline Bushong, Evan Bushong, Juniper Beese, Oliver Bushong, Wilder Cartmill, Leo Simpson, and Lilah Jane Smartt.
She is preceded in death by parents — Eldon and Nell Walker; and siblings Loyal Walker, Artletta Bowlin, Fayoma Ray, Joy Bradley, Betty Dietrich, and Dean Walker.
