  Obituary of Carol Ann McCartneyCarol Ann McCartney, died unexpectedly on February 26, 2025 at home. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend.

Born in Tampa, Florida on January 19, 1962, Carol moved with her family to Gadsden, Alabama later that year. Carol attended both Westminster School and Gadsden High School, Class of 1980, and was a graduate of Gadsden Business College. After school, she worked several years in Huntsville until she returned home in the late 1980’s where she worked for her family’s highway construction firm. In the early 1990’s, she began working at O.K., Inc in Glencoe, Alabama, a construction trucking company. Carol became the sole owner and President of O.K., Inc. In 2020, Carol closed operations of O.K., Inc. and retired.

Carol always found joy in the company of friends and family, being the life of the party, with music on the stereo and food on the grill. She had a fabulous sense of humor; if she wasn’t laughing, she was making someone else laugh. She was a free spirit with an enormous heart that was full of love.

She is survived by her son John Patrick Baker (Jessica); brothers, Michael Henry McCartney (Lisa), John Timothy McCartney (Laura); sister-in-law, Joy Dawson; nieces and nephews, Frances Delight McCartney, Natalie Jane McCartney Colegrove (Sam), Michael Bailey McCartney II, William Timothy McCartney (Kathryn), Molly Alma McCartney Mathews (Alex), Mary Margaret McCartney; great-nieces and nephews, Michael David and Gabriel Jonathan Colegrove and Mary Kennedy and McCartney Ann Mathews; cousin, Dr. Ben Wouters; former husband and friend, Kenny Baker; and fiance, Jimmy Epling. Carol was preceded in death by her parents M. B. and Jane B. McCartney; nephew, John L. McCartney; and cousin, Dr. Erich Wouters.

The family will receive friends for a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama, or a charity of your choice.
