Carmel Benson – Obituary

Carmel Benson was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on September 9, 1935, the son of the late George and Mamie Austin Benson. He departed this life on March 2, 2018, at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 21 days.

Mr. Benson honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was of the Baptist belief and worked for IRBY Construction Company for several years. Mr. Benson enjoyed growing tomatoes, playing with his dogs, and listening to old country music, jazz, and blues. His radio was always turned up loud playing 104.9. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. They remember him as a trustworthy, honest, and dependable person.

Mr. Benson is survived by his sons, Tony Benson and wife Pam of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Robert Benson of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Trent Benson of Savannah, Tennessee; daughters, Sandra Moore and Donna Hayes, both of Huntsville, Alabama and Connie Franks of Savannah, Tennessee; sisters, Josie Short and Nellie Carroll, both of Savannah, Tennessee; brother, Jimmy Lloyd Benson of Savannah, Tennessee; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Benson was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Dorothy Austin Benson; sons, Steven Benson and Brent Benson; and a granddaughter, Melanie Robertson.
