Carlyn Benefield, 77, died Saturday, April 9, 2022, after a short illness, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Carlyn was born September 9, 1944, in New Albany, Mississippi, the daughter of Roscoe and Ruth Jones Little. She was a member of the Church of God in Ripley and had spent her working career as a factory employee. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who doted on her children and grandchildren. Her passion was also fishing.
Survivors include three sons, Carol Jean Thompson, James Robert Thompson, and Terry Glenn Thompson, all of New Albany; two daughters, Barbara Weathers and Marilyn Kay Thompson Raney both of New Albany; two brothers, Jerry Lynn Little of Pontotoc and David Ellis Little of New Albany; two sisters, Mary Ann Kenner and Martha Jean Hancock, both of New Albany; thirteen grand children; thirty one great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Danny J. Thompson, Robert L. Thompson, and Roger Dale Thompson; and one brother, Clinton Little.
Miss Carlyn’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 10:00 A. M. in Glenfield Funeral Home Chapel. Her visitation will be Monday, April 11, 2022, at the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Officiating the service will be Brother James Steele, with burial following in Glenfield Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dustin Weathers, John Weathers, Scottie Thompson, Joey Thompson, Derek Raney, and Joshua Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Garry Weathers, Keith Thompson, and Jeremy Thompson.
