Mr. Carlis Dorris, 72, of Henderson, passed away Thursday evening, November 27,2014 at his daughter’s home in Jackson.
The husband of Helen Barnes Dorris, who survives, he was retired as a self employed roofer. He was born January 31, 1942, in Bolivar, son of the late Lacy Eugene Dorris and Annie Lee Carmichael Dorris and had lived most of his life around this area. His family states that he was a ‘legend’ in gospel music and was gifted with the ability to play various musical instruments, especially the piano. Among his greatest hobbies was fishing and he was a member of Palestine Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, whom he married on June 28, 2004, survivors include two daughters, Joy Maynard and her husband, Kirby, of Jackson and Brittany Wood and her husband Jeff of Jackson; a stepdaughter, Cathy Taylor of Henderson; two sons, Anthony Dorris and his wife, Denise, of Memphis, and Lee Dorris of Jackson; a stepson, Johnny Taylor and his wife, Patty, of Henderson; three granddaughters, Amanda, Amber and Alyssa Dorris; a step grandson, Charles Taylor; and a great grandson, Levi Hunter Dorris, one great grandchild ‘on the way’ in January, and his former wife and children’s mother, Frances Dorris. The family requests memorial donations in Mr. Dorris’ name be made to the charity of the donor’s choice
