CarlaCarla Crosslin, 56, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 26, 2013. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, after a long battle with ovarian cancer and breast cancer, a journey that began just one month after her marriage to Charles Edison Crosslin, her devoted and loving husband who preceded her home going.
Mrs. Crosslin was born Carla Susan McLemore in Moulton, AL, the oldest child to Carl Ray McLemore and Jeffie Cowart McLemore, both pharmacists, and together they owned and operated The Drug Shop in Moulton, AL. Carla graduated from LCHS in 1974, and from Samford University School of Pharmacy in 1979, with a BS in Pharmacy. She was the 13th and the first of the third generation pharmacists in her family. She was a Chi Omega. Carla was honored as Outstanding Young Woman in America in 1981.

After graduation, she completed her internship at University Hospital at UAB in Birmingham and later was Sr. Pharmacist and Clinical Pharmacist for Neurosurgery. She also did externships at The Children’s Hospital, Jefferson Health Foundation, Jefferson County Nursing Home, Lakeshore Hospital, and worked at Miller’s Pharmacy in Midfield.

Returning to Moulton in January 1988, she helped establish Complete Family Care, MD PC, a doctor’s office and O.P.T.I.O.N. Care, a home IV therapy company. She also worked part-time at The Drug Shop. In 2003, she was named Director of Pharmacy at Parkway Hospital. In December 2004, she began working at Huntsville Hospital Employee Pharmacy, and was considered an “as needed” employee until February 2013. In November 2007, she opened Clearview Cancer Institute Pharmacy and worked there until March 2008, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and recurrent ovarian cancer. She was a past member of the AL Society Health System Pharmacists, AL Pharmaceutical Association, American Society Healthy System Pharmacists, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.

Mrs. Crosslin was an active member of the community and served her Lord at Moulton Baptist Church. She was active in Girl’s Auxiliary as a child and reached the level of Queen with a Scepter, and was also active in the youth choir group. Upon returning to Moulton, she became active at MBC again and served in various areas of ministry. She was a Sunday School leader, Sunday School Director, VBS Director, VBS leader, Discipleship Director, Facilitator of Women’s Bible Studies, Children’s Choir leader, Adult Choir member, worked with youth mission trips, and began the community Divorce Care ministry. In 2002, she traveled to Greece and Turkey with Beth Moore for the filming of the video Bible Study of John, Beloved Disciple, and in 2003, organized a community Bible Study for that study. In 2005, she served as a medical missionary in Migori, Kenya, with kenyarelief.org. Mrs. Crosslin was an active member of the Alabama Emmaus Community having attended walk #242.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edison Crosslin; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl McLemore; and her niece, Franny McLemore.

Surviving are her two daughers, Reagan Elizabeth Gillespie and Kinsey Rebecca Gillespie, both of Moulton; three stepchildren, Tim Crosslin (Donna) of Killeen, Texas, Jim Crosslin (Jessica) of Hatton, and Kim Garton (Chip) of Hatton; two brothers, Stephen Ray McLemore (Debbie), Moulton, and Lee Jeffrey McLemore (Amy) , Birmingham; four nephews, Martin McLemore (Amy), Trent McLemore, Trey McLemore, and L.J. McLemore; her niece, Shelton Carla McLemore; an uncle, Steve Cowart (Betty), Calera, AL.; two aunts, Cecile Lochridge, Huntsville, and Sandra Burch, Moulton; additionally surviving are Ashli Cierra Crosslin; and her daughter, Scarlett Elaine; Dakota Crosslin, Russellville; Zoe; Cora; Ian; and Isaiah Crosslin; Ashley and Kaleb Garton, all of Hatton. She is also survived by a large extended Crosslin family; Gillespie family; Cowart family; McLemore family; her Christian family; and many wonderful friends who faithfully ministered to her during her long illness.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, May 29, at 2 p.m. at Moulton Baptist Church. The family will receive friends after the service at a reception in Fellowship Hall.

Donations in Carla’s memory may be made to the Lilies of the Valley, Hospice of the Valley, and Moulton Baptist Church.
