Carey Anne Link
December 2, 1975 – November 2, 2021

Carey, beloved daughter of Judy and Jim Link, died very peacefully in her mother’s arms after a seven year battle with metastatic cancer. Carey was a beautiful and loving daughter. Our lives will never be the same without her. Carey was born in Knoxville, Tennessee while her father attended graduate school at the University of Tennessee. She attended school in Hanau and Kaiserslautern, Germany and graduated from Lee High School in Huntsville.

Carey was a graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology She was pursuing a Master’s degree in counseling from Faulkner University. She completed all the course work (4.0 GPA). Her disease precluded her from fulfilling the practicum requirements. Her goal was help others with disabilities and cancer. While in college she worked as a summer hire and after graduating from the University she was hired as a civil servant in the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity. She worked there for 16 years until she was medically retired. She was a youth volunteer for the Red Cross for several years under the leadership of mentor and friend Mary Moreillion. Carey traveled to several locations with the Red Cross and on one occasion met with Senator Dole.

Carey was a gifted poet who started writing at age 14 and never stopped. Five of her works were selected for publication. Her poems were featured in the Birmingham Arts Journal,
Alabama Magazine and several others. Carey’s poetry was featured in numerous anthologies.

Carey was a member of the Huntsville Literary Association for many years. She mentored poets around the nation and as far away as London. She was very generous and gifted UAH with an endowed scholarship. She was a remarkable young woman.

Carey was preceded in death by her infant brother, Michael Andrew Link and grandparents, Martha and Lynwood Hart and Rosemary and Ralph Link. She is survived by her parents, Judy and Jim Link.

Our gratitude and thanks to Dr. Marshall Schreeder, his staff, and everyone at Clearview Cancer Institute who helped Carey travel this journey. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Margaret Bibb for her help and guidance over the past seven years. Also, our thanks to Encompass Health Hospice for their care and compassion during Carey’s final days.

Visitation will be held from 1 pm to 3 pm on Sunday, November 7th, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life with Rev Dr. Daryl Craft of Whitesburg Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
