Candace L. Nixon, age 79, resident of Columbia, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021 at her residence.
A private entombment will be held at Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Joey Scruggs officiating. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, October 26th at 2:00pm at First Family Baptist Church in Columbia with Pastor Rick Blevins and Pastor Deron Henry officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 1:00 – 2:00pm at the church. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Candace was born September 25, 1942 in Alabama and was the daughter of the late George Clapper and the late Wilma T. Jackson Clapper. She graduated in Cleveland, Mississippi and was a homemaker. Candace was a dedicated member of First Family Baptist Church of Columbia and had her own prayer ministry that she started in Mississippi for people that had terminal sickness. She was an excellent painter and even sold some of them to put her son through medical school. She also enjoyed teaching people how to paint. Candace devoted the past 30 years of her life to her prayer ministry and to her five grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Nixon of Columbia; son, Dr. Scot (Carla) Nixon of Virginia; daughter, Melanie (Fon) Wixon of Spring Hill; brother, George Clapper of Mississippi; and grandchildren, Jordan Wixon, Ashley Wixon, Kayleigh Wixon, Rachel Nixon, and Anna Nixon.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel Wixon.
