Camellia Nell McDowra, of Decatur, passed away on January 14, 2024. Her visitation will be on Tuesday, January 23, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home followed by service at 2:00 PM. Garth Lindsay will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.
Camellia is survived by her son John Thomas McDowra (Shelia McDowra), daughter Sabra Ann Davis (Danny Davis), grandchildren Sloan Acker (Taylor Acker), John R. McDowra (Lexi), Hayden Davis, Thomas McDowra, Reed McDowra, great grandson John Henry McDowra, sister-in-law Margaret Davis (Charles Davis), Karen McDowra, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Albert McDowra, and father and mother, Howard Lee Finchum and Pearl Sloan Finchum.
Camellia was born January 17, 1945 in Decatur, AL. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1963 and Calhoun Community College with an associate’s degree in nursing. She went on to become a registered nurse. She was an RN at Decatur General Hospital, Parkway Medical Center, and Decatur General West Hospital for many years. She was a member of Eastern Star. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Decatur. Camellia and her husband Johnny were married for 55 years.
Pallbearers include John R. McDowra, Hayden Davis, Thomas McDowra, Reed McDowra, Taylor Acker, Tim Davis, and Tom Davis.
