Camellia Barrentine Huey was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on December 28, 2023.
Camellia was born in West Jasper on 06/25/1933 to Carlos Barrentine and Ada Willcut. In 1938, her Mother died in an automobile accident. Later, Carlos married Stella Romine Taylor who raised Camellia.
During WW2, the family moved to Mobile to help in the war efforts at the docks. After the war, the family moved permanently to Hueytown.
Camellia was a cheerleader and graduated from Hueytown High School. She met the love of her life in high school, Kyle David Huey Jr (KD) and they were married Thanksgiving Day November 26, 1953. They were married 69 years.
Camellia earned a degree as a Dental Hygienist from UAB Dental School. She worked with Dr Hooks in Hueytown and Dr Briscoe in Jasper. One of her talents was Hospitality and this truly came to light in January 1966. KD and Camellia moved and started a business on Lewis Smith Lake called Huey’s Marina. After living a year at the Marina, Camellia decided to open the cafe. Her cooking skills became iconic in the area. All during these years, she and KD employed young people to help at the marina and cafe. Many of these young people still share their life changing and uplifting stories.
Camellia was best known for being a prayer intercessor and for leading a prayer group in Jasper. This group met every Thursday night for over forty years. The group was known for praying over the city, county, nation and Israel. Camellia came to be recognized as the Prayer Mother of Walker County.
Camellia is preceded in death by both her parents and step mother and her Beloved husband KD. All of her siblings and spouses were waiting in Heaven for her. Sisters were Pearline B Sanders (James), Delphine B Vines (Marlin), Mavie B Evans (Charles), and Betty Taylor Enger Maynard (Bill). Brothers JB Barrentine, Boyd Taylor (JoAnn), Buel C Barrentine (Colleen) and David M Barrentine (Sarah).
Camellia is survived by Sister in law Dot Barrentine (David) and numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of Spiritual sons and daughters.
Services will be at Collins Burke Wednesday January 3, 2024.
Visitation will be 10-12, Service at 12 followed by graveside at Oak Hill Cemetery.
