Byron B. Bower, IV., 69, passed away on April 22, 2016 after a bout with cancer. Byron grew up in Florence and graduated from Kilby Training School, Coffee High School and the University of Mississippi where he was a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Byron Bower was preceded in death by his sister, Hollis Bower McDonald and his parents, Virginia Hollis Bower and Byron B. Bower III. He is survived by his sister Eve C. Bower, his daughter, Jessica P. Bower and son, Byron (Trip) B. Bower V (Brittany), niece Eve McDonald Boger (William) of Nashville and Nephew, Justin McDonald (Virginia) of Birmingham and six great nieces and nephews.
Byron worked for A.G. Edwards as a stockbroker and was known by all as a savvy businessman who played a role in many organizations and endeavors throughout his life. As a member of the Board of Directors of Florence Rotary Club, Byron was awarded a Distinguished Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors for many years of Downtown Florence Unlimited, a member of the Board of Directors for United Way and for Heritage Preservation Inc., where he served as Treasurer. Byron was also a proud member of Florence Main Street. To honor his work on the Southall Building and other historical endeavors, Byron was awarded a Distinguished Service Award by the Alabama Historical Commission. Byron was also a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church downtown Florence.
An avid sportsman, Byron was the Alabama State Diving Champion while attending Coffee High School. A member of the United States Tennis Association, Byron served as the President of the Florence Tennis Club. For many years he was also the chairman of the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club Golf Tournament.
Of all of his achievements throughout life, Byron was most proud of his two children, Byron (Trip) Bower, V. and Jessica P. Bower. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in honor of Byron B. Bower, IV., to your favorite charity. Friends and family will be welcomed at Greenview Memorial Park for a brief memorial service at 11 a.m. to honor the life of Byron B. Bower, IV., on Tuesday, April 26.
