Byron Allen Ratliff, age 86, died on Friday, September 6, as a result of a sudden illness at the Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, TN, where he received kind and compassionate care. He was born on February 13, 1938 to George Malcolm Ratliff and Anna LaVerne (Allen) Ratliff in Morgan County, Alabama. He was the oldest of 5 children.
Byron graduated from Decatur High School on June 4, 1956, and then went on to further his education at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Byron became a successful engineer, working for multiple companies. Most prominently, he worked for Jacobs Engineering Group in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was also owner and president of Professional Staffing Consultants, LLC in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Throughout his adult life, Byron enjoyed playing softball for a number of different teams. He also was an avid Alabama football fan. Roll Tide! Truly, he had a passion for sports of all kinds, and enjoyed watching and playing multiple sports.
Byron had 2 children, Angela (Ratliff) Adcock and Scott Allen Ratliff. Byron, also affectionately known as “Pop”, had 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Byron was very involved in the lives of his kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In 2013, Byron and wife Evelyn Ann Ratliff, moved to Leiper’s Fork, TN. Here, Byron built his retirement home and enjoyed life in the hills of Tennessee. Byron created a home and environment that welcomed family and friends to come and spend time together in a way that will not be easily forgotten.
Byron was preceded in death by his son, Scott Allen Ratliff; his parents, George Malcolm Ratliff and Anna LaVerne (Allen) Ratliff; his brothers, Samuel Dwight Ratliff and Michael David Ratliff; and his brother-in-law Ray Quinn.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ann Ratliff of Leiper’s Fork, TN; his daughter, Angela (Mark) Adcock of McCordsville, IN; his grandson, Morgan (Joanna) Adcock of Whiteland, IN; his granddaughter, Amye (Mike) Alder of McCordsville, IN; great-grandchildren Harper and Lincoln Adcock of Whiteland, IN, and Landon, Jackson, Carson, and Olivia Alder of McCordsville, IN; brother George M. Ratcliff (Wanda) of Franklin, TN; sister, Sharon Quinn of Gulf Breeze, FL; sister-in-law Linda Ratliff of Decatur, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Byron will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home, 741 Danville Rd SW, Decatur, Alabama 35601, followed by a celebration of life at 4:00 PM. Byron will be laid to rest in Roselawn Cemetery, 709 Memorial Drive SW, Decatur, Alabama 35601.
