“A single-vehicle crash involving a bicyclist that occurred at approximately 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, has claimed the life of an Athens man.

Charles S. Olney, 68, was critically injured when the bicycle that he was operating was struck in the roadway by a vehicle. After the initial impact, the bicycle left the roadway and Olney was thrown off.

The vehicle left the scene and the exact vehicle type, as well as the driver is still unknown.  Olney was transported to Athens Limestone Hospital where he later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The crash occurred on Looney Road near Pine Road, approximately six miles north of Athens, in Limestone County.  Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

The vehicle is believed to possibly be a Chevrolet Colorado or a GMC Canyon with passenger side damaged.  Anyone with information on the vehicle and/or incident should contact ALEA Troopers at 256-353-0631.”
